Re: Welcome Thread
Yay!
I have a person now!
Oh, if you want to pic an avatar, use what you want: I haven't uploaded anything special to the gallery and just picked from the preloaded stuff. If we want to have some sort of a theme at some point that can be discussed when we have more people!

Re: Welcome Thread
Pick whatever you like.
There isn't a game yet, anyway, and if people have more than one character there are other ways to keep track.

Re: Welcome Thread
I think we need more people before we start a game, unless BB goes Plural Girl on us (in which case she could prolly field an entire party on her ownsome).
Re: Welcome Thread
Oh maaaaaaaan I forgot about being Plural Girl. I might be able to? But it would take a while. Last resort and/or joke session probably.

Re: Welcome Thread
Being Plural Girl is not required, I won't force you. Though it would be kinda hilarious if you did field an entire party by yourself.
I am not averse to joke sessions, either. My IRL friends and I had a tendency to get a bit silly, even in normal gameplay . . .

Re: Welcome Thread
I haven't heard good things about 4e, sorry.
I've even played with someone whose first DnD experience was 4e and she said that 3.5e was more fun when she played with us.
Though, I suppose, if you really like 4e, you could try running it yourself. I would just recommend that it be something short so that you don't have to waste time working up a whole campaign only to find that we all hate it and want to switch to something else.

Re: Welcome Thread
nonono, the only reason i like 4e is cause the shardmind race and invoker class only exist in 4e, and i want to play as them, i actually prefer 5e over 4

Re: Welcome Thread
Ah.
Well, I've never played 5e. It also seems to be either too new to have much online yet or no one wants to scan and upload their books so the only info I can find on it is the super basic version Wizards put up for free.
I'd suggest either taking shardmind and invoker and rewriting them to be consistent with another version of the game or finding the most similar race and class in the version that you want to play and go with that.
I have put a huge number of 3.5e resources up on my google drive, you might find something you like or something suitable for modifying.
I am totally pro house rules: there's no point playing if it isn't fun, so anything we want to add or change to make it more fun is cool.

Re: Welcome Thread
Well, for rewriting, you'd mostly be looking for the most similar race and splicing in abilities from other races or monsters to get it where you want to be (possibly involving penalties to avoid being OP).
Taking into account that I don't actually know anything about the race and class you want, my suggestions may be off.
I'm guessing you're looking at something psionic? In which case, I'd suggest the Expanded Psionics Handbook, Complete Psionic, Manual of the Planes or Planar Handbook (one or both of those talk about the Githyanki and Githzerai).
You might be able to find something suitable to work with in those.

Re: Welcome Thread
oh no sorry should have explained that invoker is basically a holy wizard controller type dude, lots of holy stuff, lots of aoe and a couple of angel summoning
i like shardmind cause living construct made of stone shards held together by psychic(tho in invokers case holy) power and i just think they rather cool
but yeh thankie for giving suggestions its much appreciated

Re: Welcome Thread
It's been awhile since I've read everything (I have, in fact, read every single RPG book accessible from the links I posted), but there are living constructs in 3.5: the Warforged are from Eberron, I think.
And there's other crystal based stuff in Eberron (dragonshards throughout the world, special psionics in Xen'drik) and all the crystal dragons in Faerun.
There's stuff on Warforged in the Eberron books and in the Monster Manuals, in addition to information on other constructs in general and Living Constructs.
I am willing to use pre-made campaign settings, since those would save time on world-building.
(I still haven't heard from my irl friends, so I know nothing about the state of the campaign Leslie was writing . . . you guys have ideas or should I start coming up with one of my own? and if I need to write a campaign, any ideas for the direction I should head or things I should avoid? for example: I am actually quite fond of Drow, but not everyone is)

Nothing comes to mind in terms of things I'm opposed to...

Re: Welcome Thread
Since Invoker is a Divine class, looking in Complete Champion, Complete Divine, and Defenders of the Faith is prolly your best bet to find anything similar.

Re: Welcome Thread
So I'm starting work at H&D soon.
I suspect I won't be staying with my friends (since one of them now has a bf who moved in) but I should be seeing/hanging out with them at some point while I'm down there for 3-3.5 months. I can ask why they haven't joined this site yet . . .
Maybe they only want to play in person, in which case we might have a short campaign while I'm there (which would be fun!).
On the other hand, we might want to just start our own thing here in case my irl friends don't want to play online or simply don't have time at the moment.
Any ideas?
Pirates might be fun for a long-term, plot-light, campaign . . . with sea monsters . . .
I've also thought about something vaguely inspired by Labyrinth (in that it would take place in a giant maze, not that it would take any plot points from the movie . . . though I've always kinda had a crush on Jareth) . . .
Mercenaries are also a classic . . .
